PROTEST ROCKS FUT OWERRI OVER SCHOOL FEES INCREMENT

The 17th February, 2017 witnessed a heavy protest as the students of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) took to the streets in large numbers over the increment of school fees by the Federal government of Nigeria. In spite of the hardship in the country, the Buhari-led administration decided to inflict more hardships on these students, thereby making life unbearable for them.
Not only did they complain of the increment in the school fees but also some irrelevant minute levies imposed on them.

Family Writers interviewed one of the students and he confessed that they were all tired of Nigeria.  Other students chorused 'we need Biafra to end our suffering, we want Biafra'. Meanwhile , a 300 level student died due to lack of proper health care. An investigation into the cause of the riot, showed that the school fees schedule for 2015/2016 academic session and that of 2016/2017 academic session were not the same .

School fees schedule for 2015/2016 academic session:

Year one (100L) School fees:
Geology = (School fees) N50,800 + N40,000 (Acceptance Fees)
Total= N90,800
Other Departments = (School fees) N48,300+ N40,000 (Acceptance fees)
Total= N88,300

Year two & three (200l-300l) School fees:
Geology = #35,800
Other Departments = #33,300
FUTO Year IV & V(400l-500l) School fees
Geology = #30,800
Other Departments = #28,300

 School fees schedule for 2016/2017 academic session:

Family Writers got reliable information that fresh (100 Level) students pay an additional acceptance fee of NGN 42,500 making it a total of NGN 124,000. Students pay huge amounts for accommodation and course registration. One of the students revealed to Family Writers that fresh students pay more than NGN 20,000 for various course registrations apart from school fees and acceptance fees.

There was heavy security presence on campus to ensure that the students do not vandalize school property or create any havoc during the protest. The students decided to embark on the protest when the school management gave them ultimatum when to pay up or risk late registration charge of NGN 10,000.

From the above, it is crystal clear that the leadership of this expired State called Nigeria is a fraud. How can the school management impose such fees on students when people can barely feed these days?  Biafra will set things right when fully restored. With the emergence of Biafra, proper management of school system will be put in place.

  1. Can you imagine the fees parents will have to pay for their children to attend university in a country that pays minimum wage of 18,000 Naira! And many workers do not receive their salaries on time-- sometimes, wages are owned for months up to six to nine months. Nigeria and their leaders are simply evil and wicked. While students are charged so exorbitant fees at FUTO, the governor - Okorocha stashed over $1 billion at JP Morgan chase bank in America - according to: US unveils 16 richest politicians from Nigeria. Shame on him. Students must continue the protest against these evil and wicked rulers and parents should not pay such ridiculous fees.
