EGWUATU CHUKS AND PRINCE DAN ARE BIAFRAN JOURNALISTS, NOT SUICIDE BOMBERS

EGWUATU CHUKS AND PRINCE DAN ARE BIAFRAN JOURNALISTS, NOT SUICIDE BOMBERS

Written By Ekwenye Samuel,
For Family Writers Press.

I am just getting more troubled and confused over this issue  between the Nigeria security forces and the poor innocent individuals known as Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan of Family Writers Press, who were arrested for embarking on their respective journalistic duties. They were abducted in Enugu state on November 4, 2017, and were falsely accused of masterminding the  explosion that took place in one of the polling units on the very day of Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in the state, while they were on duty for the election coverage.

Have you seen the mentality of the Nigerian Police?  In Nigeria, everybody is a suspect including the dictator, President Muhammadu Buhari. A country where people are being arrested, not because they are actually the perpetrators of the very crime in question, but because they are found somewhere near or around the scene of the incident. Innocent people are easily forced to become  a money making venture for the police.

Journalists can be arrested and detained for fake reportage or going contrary to the rules and laws of the land they operate, but Enugu State belongs to Biafra; therefore, the abducted Family Writers Press correspondents being  indigenes,  have every right freedom to movement and reportage. Biafran journalists are professionals and not suicide bombers, therefore, issues relating to explosions should not be the reason for detaining any journalist for so long a period of time.

Do you know that from independent  observations and exclusive investigations, the Nigerian police should be held accountable for that explosion?  Three days before the election took place, precisely on November 1st, there was an insider who revealed an information that Northern Hausa Fulani people are coming into the Enugu state to cause mayhem, and on the day of the election, most of the police men assigned to the polling stations were mostly Hausa Fulani policemen.

Few minutes after the explosion, we received a report that it was immediately, the policemen deployed within the area left the place, that the explosion occurred. The polling station was not crowded, as people failed to turnout in total compliance to the election boycott which was mandated all over Biafra territory by IPOB ably led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Hence, there could have been a notice of any suspicious move by the police, which would have averted  explosion. Those Family Press correspondents, Egwuatu Chuks and  Prince Dan arrived at that very polling unit to cover the event and get situation reports and hastily move to another polling station to also get the situation reports there, as they move about taking pictures, videos and then reporting to Family Writers Press situation room.

Summarily, it should be noted that if arresting these two journalists by the police are connected to the explosion; then,  Sahara Reporters and Channels Tv correspondents, were the masterminders of the bomb blast that wrecked Adamawa State during Goodluck Jonathan's presidential campaign in the state in 2014. A sad situation which occurred immediately Ex- president Jonathan left the venue. Sahara Reporters and Channels Tv correspondents were there live with the Ex- president  because they were the first to report the incident, same way Family Writers Press correspondents were  the first to report the Enugu explosion.

I am saying that if Channels Tv and Sahara Reporters correspondents could not be called to explain what they know about the bomb blast that killed dozens of civilians in the North, as reported by the Nigerian media, of which it is very certain that not less than a hundred people lost their lives either immediately or thereafter in hospitals where they were taken to for treatments; then Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan should be released urgently, because the allegations being peddled against them is totally unfounded, and they have no case to answer.

It is of record that the Nigeria government and her security agents have committed lots of human rights abuses against innocent people of Biafra, and this very pathetic case is just one of many.

Finally, we are alerting the world to urgently mount pressure on Nigerian government to release the two Family Writers Press correspondents, Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan, because journalism is not a crime and their lives is severely under threat.
