SUSPENSION OF ELECTION BOYCOTT: WHY BIAFRANS SHOULD REJOICE

SUSPENSION OF ELECTION BOYCOTT: WHY BIAFRANS SHOULD REJOICE

Following the unanticipated announcement of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide, on the night of Thursday, 14th February 2019, about the reversal of the election boycott order placed on Nigeria's presidential election billed for Saturday 16th February 2019, various social media platforms have been witnessing some level of pandemonium. To quite a number of Biafrans, this sudden swift of action by IPOB leadership seems almost incomprehensible and unbelievable. There have been insinuations that the leadership may have even been compromised. Fanatics of People's Democratic Party (PDP), a major opposition party in Nigeria, and Personal Voters Card (PVC) advocates, have in like manner, misconstrued the reversal declaration and very erroneously, been celebrating victory of a war they never have any figment of knowledge about.

One exceptionally powerful aspect of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is it's unique proactiveness in engaging with the Nigerian State. When Mazi Nnamdi Kanu first declared in the year 2017, that without any form of official internationally witnessed referendum treaty sealed by IPOB, there would not be any Nigerian organized election across Biafraland, lots of people even within the IPOB family, strongly criticized the audacity of the IPOB leader to have made such a declaration. To Chief John Nnia Nwodo's led Ohaneze Ndigbo socia-cultural group,  Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is only proudly arrogating to himself, the leadership of the entire Igboland, thereby biting more than he can chew. Others labeled IPOB as instigators of anarchy in Biafraland.

It has very unfortunately, been seasons of cold war between IPOB and Ohaneze Ndigbo, several other Igbo socia-cultural groups, political elites and their corresponding sharp-toothed blind praise singers, eversince. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) globally, has very uncompromisingly, shown enormous amount of determination and resolve against all odds and has equally enjoyed massive solidarity and followership from Biafrans and lovers of freedom, which has greatly rattled the adversary's camp, with the Nigerian government inclusive. Just in the evening of Thursday 14th February 2019, before the lifting of the election boycott,  I was personally responding to a reputable advocate of PDP, who seemed confused on why despite Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's conviction and series of irrefutable forensic evidence that the original Muhammadu Buhari is dead and who is being presently impersonated by a Sudanese, he yet remained adamantly opposed to Biafrans participating in the presidential polls, which invariably gives the impostor and the cabals a lifeline in Aso Rock for the next four years.

I emphatically  made the young fellow to understand that IPOB's election boycott stance is not borne out of fear of Jubril Aminu Al-Sudani (impostor) winning a second term, neither should anyone expect IPOB to throw it's weight behind Atiku Abubakar, without reaching any tangible pact that will facilitate and benefit the Biafra struggle on the long run. The young man further asked how could election boycott bring Biafra into reality. My response was that if election boycott as a bargaining threat can give an internationally monitored and recognized referendum, then Biafra restoration is already a done deal. I made it frankly known that since Atiku Abubakar and his political party (PDP), have refused to reach a concessional agreement with IPOB over the perfect reasons behind the elections boycott threat, they then have absolutely no genuine political intention towards solving the seemingly endemic problems ravaging Nigeria and therefore, deserves to painfully lose.

Interestingly and shortly after the conversation, the leadership caucus of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) globally, put up the announcement that the presidential election boycott has been lifted as a result of an official pact reached with relevant political actors of Nigeria, in the presence of the international community. It was really heartwarming on hearing that announcement. IPOB has done it!, I screamed. I quickly called some of my friends who either expressed mixed feelings or were surprisingly unhappy about the development.

I had to really talk uncommon sense into them. It is purely irrational and smacks of mental weakness for any IPOB family member, ardent supporter/sympathizer, to nurse any form of thought that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and of course, the leadership caucus of the IPOB, have sabotaged the Biafra restoration cause by calling off the election boycott.  I have been in IPOB, have studied the organization for quite a while and I have strong faith in it, for me to succumb to unnecessary, negative emotions or begin to consider prevarication by thinking that the IPOB leadership has compromised the struggle it has so much invested in and garnered several international reputation.

Truth be told therefore, that the real heroes of the reversed election boycott decision by the IPOB leadership, are not the PDP irate mob that think they can achieve anything meaningful by fabricating inconceivable lies against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or by bullying IPOB supporters into voting against the standing order. Rather, the heroic legends are the millions of IPOB family members who since 2017, have saturated the Nigerian State and the International Community with relentless campaigns and messages of Nigeria election boycott as a potent sophisticated weapon of our civil disobedience. Now that the IPOB leadership has given us the assurance that the purpose of which the election boycott action was instituted has been achieved and therefore, boycott lifted, there exists absolutely no reason why any genuine Biafran should not celebrate to the shame of all the enemies of the Biafra restoration project.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide, is presently holding Nigeria at the jugular whether the political gladiators implement the second "ABURI ACCORD" or not. The sacrifice of all who have given their lives for this course, can never ever be in vain, neither will Nigeria ever remain the same again.
