BAIL REVOCATION: TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE ON MAZI NNAMDI KANU AND THE SILENCE OF THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY

BAIL REVOCATION: TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE ON MAZI NNAMDI KANU AND THE SILENCE OF THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu
The most compelling force gradually setting the tone for Biafrans to pick up arms against the Nigerian State, is the persistent display of human rights abuses,  with the deafening and callous silence of the global community. All these years, the world cannot pretend to feign ignorance of the gruelling ordeals being faced by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide, ably led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Biafrans have been subjected to all manner of despicable treatments in the hands of the agents of the Nigerian government basically due to their inalienable rights to agitations for total freedom. Thousands of the people have been gruesomely killed and maimed, with hundreds yet languishing in different detention facilities across Biafraland and other parts of Nigeria just because of this. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the courageous leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has equally tested the pains of iron bars in the struggle for this ongoing Biafra restoration project.

He was later granted bail on the 25th of April 2017, on most stringent conditions ever known in modern history, after spending good eighteen months in an illegitimate incarceration. This, the Nigerian government did, with the intention of wanting to break his resolve on the quest for Biafra independence. In the course of serving his bail while also enthusiastically waiting for his court appearance on the 17th of October 2017 as scheduled, the Nigerian army massively mobilized, based on outlandish presidential directives, and murderously invaded his residence at Isiama, Afara-Ukwu, Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State. That raid resulted in the death of twenty eight unarmed members of IPOB. However, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was guarded out of death although he sustained life threatening injuries in his escape bid. After that criminal invasion, the legal defense counsel and sureties of the IPOB leader, emphatically detailed reports to the court, on how the Nigerian government eventually resorted to extra-judicial self help by carrying out assassination attempt on his life. But the Nigerian Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako which had earlier granted him bail and contrary to expectations, took to blatantly turning down the enlightened prayers of the defense counsel and sureties on what really transpired to their client.

The height of provocation which is unmistakably calling on the international community to intervene in the Biafra independence agitation, happens therefore, to be the latest development. Justice Binta Nyako who is the presiding judge in the case between Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Nigerian government, issued a  bench warrant of arrest on the IPOB leader, by despotically revoking his bail. This same Binta Nyako's court has resistably continued to deny his team of lawyers and sureties, the needed judicial window to give explanation to the reasons behind the failure of their client to make appearances in court as required. Through this controversial ruling, the Nigerian Police Force was mandated to immediately effect arrest of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and get him back in the next court sitting. It is unfortunate that notable world leaders have in the face of this judicial rape, remained silent, watching the Nigerian government desecrating well established international laws. They are hiding under the covers of sovereignty of nations and rights to internal affairs of nations to perpetrate this anomaly.

Judging by the body language of Justice Binta Nyako since the 14th of September 2017, when the fulanised Nigerian army carried out that assassination attempt on the life of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, it has really become obvious that this presiding judge completely connived with the Nigerian government to get him released in order to have him summarily eliminated in whatever way possible outside prison. If not, how could it be explained that Justice Binta Nyako has  maintained her refusal to entertain applications containing details of the planned assassination of the IPOB leader in his residence by the Nigerian army? The world leaders must have to break their undeserved silence now and proactively stem the looming Biafran youths civil unrest as being invited by the Nigerian State. Presently, anyone plotting against Mazi Nnamdi, invariably has the entire people of Biafra globally, to contend with. This man is a non-violent, armless and highly enlightened freedom fighter with absolutely no account of orchestrating death or destruction anywhere. There is no known law within and outside Nigeria, that stipulates or criminalises secessionist agitation. Both United Nations and African Union charters, respectively state that all indigenous people globally, have inalienable right to self determination.

Fully armed with the contents of these referenced charters, the world leaders should therefore note that it is the Nigerian government that is the offender, brazenly and arrogantly committing international crimes against humanity.
