PRIEST'S DEATH IN ENUGU: DENIAL OF MIYETTI ALLAH IS ENOUGH REASON TO PROSCRIBE CATTLE MOVEMENT IN THE STATE

PRIEST'S DEATH IN ENUGU: DENIAL OF MIYETTI ALLAH IS ENOUGH REASON TO PROSCRIBE CATTLE MOVEMENT IN THE STATE

The blatant act of impunity exhibited by Fulani killer herdsmen in Biafraland, with particular reference to Enugu State, is to say the least, most provocative. Recent events by these marauding cattle herders have brought unbearable pain and suffering to the indigenous people of the land. Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), the umbrella body of Fulani herdsmen, have surreptitiously denied their involvement in the gruesome killing of a Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Paul Offu of Enugu Diocese which occurred on Thursday 1st August 2019. It is important for the global community therefore, to fully understand that such just a denial is a bare face lie. It should not be forgotten in a hurry, that Miyetti Allah issued out series of threats of mayhem through it's leadership against Biafrans particularly in the South-East region. These were issued, should the political and socio-cultural leaders of the indigenous people fail to give them access to lands in the five Igbo speaking States for the establishment of their planned Fulani Ruga settlements. As at date, three serious security breaches have been recorded resulting from the threats of these cattle rearers. All the incidents took place in Enugu State as listed beneath:

* The poisoning of cow meat sold out to Biafran residents in Awgu, Enugu State, which killed the vultures that ate the remnants of the cow left within an abbattoir. It should be noted here that the number of Biafran victims who may have consumed this toxicated cow meat in Awgu environs could not be ascertained.

* The gruesome killing of Catholic Priest, Paul Offu of Enugu Diocese which triggered off the unprecedented protest of his colleagues in the city.  Although the Miyetti Allah leadership merely denied culpability of their sponsored foot soldiers (Fulani killer herdsmen), but the world fully knows that their statements smack of bare faced lies. These are all jihadi terror invaders.

* The kidnap of a monarch of Agbogugu autonomous community and his wife, took place also within the same Awgu environ.

From the above enumerated instances that successively took place alongside other heinous atrocities in Igboland as orchestrated by these Islamic criminals, it will tantamount to stupidity for anyone to believe the hypocrisy of the Miyetti Allah leadership. The mayhem visited on our people stems from the threat should there be refusal to give them lands for their Ruga project as well as disallowing them to establish Fulani vigilantes. The callous denial of Miyetti Allah of their culpability in these crimes is totally unacceptable and provocative. In fact, it has become obviously necessary for all the different cadre of leadership in Biafraland to completely proscribe the activities of these Fulani herdsmen. The  bizarre and rampant movement of their cattle across communities must have to be banned forthwith. Indigenous dwellers must be empowered and allowed free hands to curb every nook and cranny within their localities to fish out all nuisances.

The outright proscription of movements of cattle from location to location across Biafraland does not mean eviction of Fulanis from the land  nor does it debar them from rearing their cows legitimately if they so desire. They should be made to conform to the best modern standards of  ranching and by so doing, gain access to nearby bushes to fetch feeds (grasses)  for their cattle without endangering the lives and properties of their host communities. Engaging in this sanity, will easily exonerate them from the numerous crimes they are linked to against humanity particularly in Igboland. Investigation carried out by Family Writers Press International into the root cause of the consistent mayhem perpetrated against indigenous natives of Igboland, proved that constant disagreements between host community dwellers and the Fulanis stem from wilful encroachment  into farmlands/destruction of crops by the Fulani cows.

The state governments across Igboland in synergy with Ohaneze Ndigbo and traditional rulers, have to courageously  put up an outright pronouncement banning Fulani cattle movements. The cows must be confined to designated locations within respective communities against the prevalent nauseating scenarios as being witnessed, thereby restoring the much anticipated sanity. This is the only acceptable step at least for now that will curtail the Fulani herdsmen menace in Igboland particularly and elsewhere.
