WE HAVE NO REGRETS AND WOULD CONTINUE AGITATION UNTIL KANU IS RELEASED VICTIMS

Chima Onyekachi and Ifeanyi Chijioke

For Family Writers.

The victims of Biafran Heroes’ day who were visited in the hospital had sworn to continue Biafra agitation until Kanu is released. They have reiterated their willingness to continue until death takes them away. Chima Onyekachi, Ifeanyi Chijioke and Chukwueeka Nduka who visited them in their various hospitals to know their state and feeling can confirm that in its entirety, the murderous approach of Buhari is only making Biafra agitation stronger. Recall that the murder and forceful approach started last year 30th August where peaceful Biafrans on evangelism were shot dead.  And with hope that such attack would deter Biafrans but instead they keep coming out. The agitation which has shown no sign of prevaricating despite the bloodshed being witnessed might soon take another dimension. There have been series of massacre recorded after the 30th August 2015, Onitsha, Aba, Enugu, Porthacourt, Akwibom, Beyalsea etc have recorded one massacre or forceful disappearance and incessant arrest. The bloodiest one was the one massacred in Aba where over 22 people died at a spot.

The silence of the world which is clearly a repeat of 1967 beats my apprehension. Biafrans have sworn never to retreat or surrender or stop agitation until Nnamdi Kanu is released to them. Meanwhile, Biafrans across the Niger have also responded in their own way of protest by destroying oil facilities and have made the demand for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. Muhammadu Buhari has refused to allow the law or release Nnamdi Kanu A.KA prisoner of conscience (POC). He once said in a media chat that he would never allow the court to release Nnamdi Kanu. He cited flight risk and also saId Nnamdi Kanu committed atrocities against the Nigerian state. He posited that if released, he would jump bail. Meanwhile, the legal team of Nnamdi Kanu has questioned the integrity of the trial judge of the high court John Tsoho who had contradicted, ruled and overruled himself. It was welcomed news when he ruled that Nnamdi Kanu will not be tried in secret, but faced criticisms when he contradicted himself in the next hearing that Nnamdi Kanu will be tried in secret.

Hon Ifeanyi Ejiofor had appealed to the appellate court and the court controversially ruled after reserving judgment that Tsoho has right to do or say anything he wants. IPOB had accused Tsoho of bias and working for Buhari, in that context asked him to withdraw from the case. Tsoho had vowed to continue and the interest he has in the case is worrisome, he ought to bow out like Ademola did. Human right organizations have accused Tsoho of bias and labeled him agent of the Buhari, they have vowed to fight on as they held that Nnamdi Kanu committed no crime but only being persecuted for sharing a different view pr belief. “Self determination is a universal law” chairman inter-society said. They have also asked the President of Nigeria to define atrocity. Buhari on the other hand had vowed that instead of grant Nnamdi Kanu his request, he and everybody would get drowned. Statement human right organizations labeled irresponsible and a threat to human existence. Buhari has responded by sending troops against unarmed Biafrans. Arresting and secretly forcing Biafrans to disappear. He has through the IGP ordered for clamp down and through the army chief of staff ordered for shoot to kill.

The latest being the massacre that occurred in Nkpor on Biafran Heroes’ day. When we visited the victims, they were not happy towards the actions of the Nigerian military but swore to continue agitation till Nnamdi Kanu is released. “If Nnamdi Kanu could leave his home in London and come down here to die for me, I won’t hesitate to die for him as well” a victim said under pains and on his bed. “The struggle just began, I have no regret, until Kanu is released, I won’t stop. As soon as I am ok here, I will go back to the field” Emeka said. Some shared different views “My death is not a problem, Nnamdi Kanu must be released or we all die. My anger is why they won’t give us gun” victor from Delta said. “There is nothing to regret here because I am doing the work of God, if I die today, heaven is my portion, I have children and IPOB will take care of them” Mr John said from his hospital bed. There is a dangerous dimension Biafra agitation is taking and it must be addressed before it is too late. Nnamdi Kanu is a civilized man that would always place peace ahead of violence even though he would stop at nothing but reach his goal. The Biafra agitation is gradually turning into a religion and once it is perfected, killing or continued incarceration of Kanu might cause untold havoc.

  1. Herald writers the focus of this agitation is actualization of Biafra nit release of Nnamdi kanu. I am not against his release but we have to concentrate on the main issue as not to make people see this struggle being about Nnamdi or any other person.
On May 30th 2016 over 200 boys were murdered and buried by nigerian police but Nnamdi was in the prison alive.Mandela was in prison for 27 Years ANC continued to call for abrogation of apathied.
We must use his arrest as fulcrum to mobilize the world on our side on this agitation.
