NKPOR VICTIM: FAMILY WRITERS INTERVIEW WITH CHIDOZIE ONUOHA HENRY

NKPOR VICTIM: FAMILY WRITERS INTERVIEW WITH CHIDOZIE ONUOHA HENRY

Mr. Chidozie Onuoha

On the 30th of may 2016 the Nigeria Armed Forces stationed in Anambra state under the command of Gov. Willie Obiano with direct approval from President Muhammadu Buhari, killed and kidnapped unarmed Biafrans who gathered peacefully at Nkpor, Anambra state, to celebrate the remembrance day of their fallen heroes who died during the Nigeria-Biafra civil war. Over 50 IPOB were killed, at least 70 injured, while some are still missing.

Amnesty International also conducted an on-ground investigation confirming that the Nigerian army indeed gunned down unarmed Biafrans ahead of last month’s planned Biafran commemoration events in Onitsha, Anambra state.

Okonkwo Isaac Somto for FAMILY WRITERS, Speaking to Mr. Chidozie Onuoha who was one of the victims shot by the Nigeria Army remains in critical condition. Mr Onuoha Chidozie Henry, remains in derogatory pain while receiving treatment in an undisclosed location. Speaking to FAMILY WRITERS,

Mr. Chidozie Onuoha had this to say.

PLEASE CAN YOU STATE YOUR NAME AND NATIONALITY?

My names are, Onuoha Chidozie Henry, from Avutu in Obowo LGA Imo state Biafra land. But I reside in Lagos state

WHAT WAS THE 30TH OF MAY ALL ABOUT?

30th of May is a day we remember our fallen heroes and heroines who died between 1967 till date. It's our anniversary day because that was the date Biafran war Lord Chief Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu declared our first independent from this contraption called Nigeria that lasted from 1967-1970.

SO WHAT HAPPENED ON THE 30TH OF MAY IN NKPOR?

On that faithful day our people gathered together from all over Biafra land to honor our heroes and heroines. It's a very remarkable day in the history of Biafra, even Biafrans in diaspora did the same in their various host countries. But unfortunately here in Nigeria they open fire on us with live bullets.

WERE YOU ARMED AND DID YOU ASSAULT ANY MEMBER OF THE NIGERIA ARMED FORCES?

There's nothing like been armed or assaulting anybody because we're not going to war and it's a very happy day for we Biafrans. We were peaceful and only singing and praying before we were attacked by the Nigeria combined forces of Army, Navy, police and other security agencies.

WHEN THE NIGERIA ARMY STARTED SHOOTING, A BULLET CAUGHT YOUR LEG, HOW DID IT HAPPEN?

It was where we gathered in our numbers at Eke Nkpor Onitsha to pray before moving down to the venue. Unfortunately we were double crossed by the Nigeria forces in their thousands coming down from their van and lying down on the floor taking positions

like people in war front, but we remain fearless, we thought maybe they will tell to leave or dismiss, but without word from us and from them, they just opened fire on us. We started running for our lives, so on that process I got shot on my leg, many of us died instantly while some died in the hospital. But the most wicked part of it is that those that died instantly and also those who were shot and couldn't run for safety were taken away by the security agencies, over hundred of them. When I was shot, I run near a house there and I managed to jump in through the fence with my wound. I was there for over 30 minutes no one to help because fear won't even let the owner of the house come out, the shooting is too much, and the blood rushing out on my body was too much, I lost so much blood that day. So when they (Nigeria armed forces) left, one man came in and then rushed out to call people for help, they now took me to hospital.

I KNOW YOU ARE GOING THROUGH SEVERE PAIN IN YOUR LEG AND WITH THE LOOK OF THINGS, HOW ARE YOU COPING?

It has been a very difficult time for me, but I must remain strong since I overcome death on that day, I will also overcome my present situation. IPOB have been marvellous to me and that's what has been keeping me strong. Our IPOB family in Lagos has really been doing great to me

HOW IS YOUR TREATMENT GOING ANY SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT?

The treatment haven't been going too well, as you can see, the wounds on my leg is still much, but the doctor have promise to improve in the area of treatment because they treat me once in a week but now he said they will be treating me twice a week. I believe before the end of this month there will be an improvement.

AFTER THE INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED AT NKPOR, DO YOU STILL THINK THAT AGITATING FOR BIAFRA IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO?

Biafra is a divine course, agitation of Biafra restoration is our right and nobody will stop us from demanding for our right.

ARE YOU DISCOURAGED ABOUT BIAFRA?

Discouraged? There's no discouragement in my dictionary. This is not the first time, they have been

killing us from 30th of August till date. We know that a day like this will come and we are prepared to pay the price because it's either we get Biafra or we die getting Biafra.

WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR BUHARI AND HIS ARMED FORCES KILLING BIAFRANS?

My message to Buhari is that he should obey the court orders and let our Admirable leader Nnamdi Kanu go and he should not be thinking of stopping Biafra agitation because Biafra is an ideology and can never be defeated by any man, Buhari should let Biafra go. My only word for Nigeria armed forces is that he that kills gun dies by the gun.

WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU HAVE FOR ALL BIAFRANS WHO ARE STILL FIGHTING HARD FOR FREEDOM?

My massage to them is to keep the fire burning, they remain resolute because we have Chukwu Okike Abiama (God of all creation) on our side and in no distant time, we'll get to our promise land.

MY FINDINGS :

Please this is to alert the general public that Mr Onuoha Chidozie is in need of serious medical care, in other to avoid his leg been amputated. His condition is not improving at all and with what I observed he's not getting the Best treatment so far and his condition is seriously deteriorating. If nothing is done soon, then he might loss his leg or even worse. Many who know Mr Chidozie, would testify that he has a strong personality and also eager to serve his country (Biafra). With the way he speaks you can see that he remains strong and determined in the midst of these entire crisis.
