BIAFRA: THE SILENCE OF WORLD LEADERS ENCOURAGES BUHARI'S DICTATORSHIP

BIAFRA: THE SILENCE OF WORLD LEADERS ENCOURAGES BUHARI'S DICTATORSHIP

The continued silence of world leaders on the quest of Biafra self-determination is hypocritcal. Thousands has been killed and innocent more are still a target by the Buhari's led adminstration. His continued dictatorship is been prolonged by the silence of world leaders and international communities.

The Biafran people after 56 years of civil war that led to the loss of over 3 million Biafrans are still facing various crimes and inhumane treatments from the people who believes that Biafrans are conquered people and deserves no respect to live. With the return of general Buhari who was a major character in the bitter civil war as against Biafrans in 1967. Biafrans have been singled out for extermination as Buhari keeps ordering his Armed Forces to kill innocent Biafrans. Over 5000 Biafrans had been killed by the Nigeria Armed Forces since president Buhari came into power as a so-called democratic president. All his strategic appointments has excluded Biafrans, he has used the security agents to kill and maim so many innocent Biafrans, In his recent interview in one of the national dailies, Mr. Buhari reiterated that he will kill more Igbo Biafrans if need arises to keep Nigeria united.

The renewed war against the riverine communities of Biafra land by the present Buhari government is an indication that the another genocide is happening before us. The freedom fighters in the area a.k.a Niger Delta avengers(NDA) has made demands from the Nigerian government to enable peace reign instead the Nigerian government has unleashed all military equipment to crush a people who are fighting for their legitimate right. The crux of the war is the crude oil resource which contributes 70% of the revenue of the Nigerian government even though the people are not benefiting from these resources as their environment is ravaged with oil spillage. The leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB) Mr. Nnamdi kanu who has been detained by the Buhari's DSS since October 14th, 2015 and still causing unrest in the entire Biafra land. Nnamdi kanu's only crime was demanding the right of self determination of his people as enshrined in the UN charter which Nigeria is signatory. Many peaceful protests has be done demanding his release, both in Europe, Asia and Biafra land, most of these protest has been resisted by the Nigeria security agencies who has shot and killed many unarmed Biafra youths.

It is saddening that all international media has kept mute over these incidence; CNN, BBC, PRESS TV, CBC News etc and even other Nigerian media Channels like TVC, NTA, AIT etc has refused to reports these abuses going on for so long. The international community has failed to live up to the defence of indigenous people, world leaders has betrayed the trust and integrity for not condemning the wicked actions against the Biafrans by Mr. Mohammadu  Buhari. The continued silence of world leaders and international communities is capable of leading to another war which will destroy the peace of the entire Africa region. No one has a monopoly of violence and any government who resist peaceful revolution cannot stop violent revolution.

World leaders should rise and compel the Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu the leader of IPOB and other Biafrans in various prisons, call off the military invasion of the Niger delta region and call for a speedy referendum to avert the crisis that may rise should any harm is done on Nnamdi kanu.

As enshrined in the UN charter, self-determination is a legal right and that is the only solution to the present situation in Nigeria. Mr Buhari should be ready to obey the rule of law as he sworn and obey court orders to unconditionally release Nnamdi kanu, as he supported the self determination of Palestine so he should be ready to allow Biafrans exercise their own rights. Nigeria and Biafra should not go the way of Sudan because no country will survive two civil wars. Self-determination is a legitimate right. Biafrans need the support of all men of good will and conscience, Britain should desist from any action that we delay justice and freedom for Biafrans. We the Indigenous people of Biafra will keep calling for the freedom of Biafra and the freedom of Nnamdi kanu.

  1. Apart from Zik, Achebe, Mbakwe, and couple of other ones; Igbo politicians and leaders do not have any connection to global powers - especially in the U.S. and EU. Without such influence, no global community cares for you until there is civil war with massive causalities and their citizens begin to complain and protest, will they intervene. We don't have leaders in Igboland – but noise-makers.
