BIAFRA DETAINEES IN KUJE PRISON OF NIGERIA: VICTIMS OF POLITICAL DETENTION IN A SUPPOSED DEMOCRATIC NIGERIA

BIAFRA DETAINEES IN KUJE PRISON OF NIGERIA: VICTIMS OF POLITICAL DETENTION IN A SUPPOSED DEMOCRATIC NIGERIA

ABUJA - Nigerian government has lost every argument on the case of treasonable felony preferred against Nnamdi Kanu, Benjamin Mmadubugwu, David Nwawuisi and Chidiebere Onwudiwe who have being in unlawful detention for almost three years now. It is very bad that a democratic society which Nigeria supposed to be has turned self determination agitators to political prisoners in democratic Nigeria when the Nigerian government should be doing everything within her reach to politically, economically and infrastructurally pacify any region of Nigeria defunct federation which its indigenous people hold a collective yearning for secession from Nigeria as the people of Biafra worldwide under the Supreme command of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has demonstrated. However, the reverse is the case completely with the Biafra agitators in a democratic Nigeria where these agitators were dumped perpetually in Kuje prison with a boast from Nigerian government principal officers calling on IPOB to defeat Nigeria government in war if they want Biafra restoration. What a dark age mentality in a modern world! Look at the principal officers of Nigeria government calling for war from a peaceful agitators when the said agitators have not asked for war but peaceful referendum. These poorly educated and primitive principal officers of Nigeria government have forgotten in a hurry the Libya experience under Gaddafi, Ivory Coast experience under Lauren Gbagbo, and present Syria experience which Assad regime will not escape. He who read this article, let him understand!

With this almost 3 years detention of these young Biafra agitators dumped in Kuje prison for committing no crime other than their vehement resolve that Biafra referendum must be conducted to test the political desire of Biafra people, I here described them as victims of political detention in a tyrannical regime in a democratic Nigeria.

Instead of perpetual detention over a demand for self determination being made by Nnamdi Kanu, Benjamin Mmadubugwu, David Nwawuisi, Chidiebere Onwudiwe and Bright Chimezie, Nigeria government should release these innocent young men and invite them to a dialogue table over Biafra referendum. Nigeria government has already gone wrong by meeting a call for self-determination with barrels of gun, armoured tanks, unlawful detention, senseless military crackdown on peaceful agitators and unlawful proscription of IPOB peaceful activities in Biafra Land. Nigerian government can remedy situation by releasing these agitators presently being held in Kuje prison without trial and bringing them to a dialogue table over Biafra referendum so that peace can reign once again in the world. The reason why it is hard for Nigeria Federal High Court presided over by Justice Binta Nyako to open the case file is because Nigeria government has no case against these in the eyes of both local and international laws and the court resorted to extra-judicial remand to prison of these innocent agitators because she is too terrified to strike out the case completely and discharge the detainees.

It is a slap on international community and a rape on international laws and conventions guiding self determination for Nigerian government to continue keeping in detention all Biafra detainees in Kuje prison and other Nigerian prisons in Biafraland. Self determination is a universal law and must be handled through a universal protocols governing self-determination and not a tyrannical approach as Nigerian government has being doing through the instrumentality of obnoxious court adjournment by Justice Binta Nyako. As Nigerian Federal High Court is already involved in the case of the Biafra Kuje prison detainees, it has seriously battered the image of Nigeria judiciary due to the caricature of Justice Binta Nyako on the judiciary as she preferred satisfying ungodly yearning of Nigeria government than protecting her judicial career and image all these while. However, I want Nigeria government to understand that political detention can never quench secessionist movement but make heroes out of the detainees. I rest my case!
