THE NEED FOR MORE DEDICATED BIAFRANS FROM COASTAL REGION TO JOIN THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM

With the war that ravaged the Eastern Region in the 60s, Nigerian government applied many tactics, which included sowing seeds of discord amongst a people. For the then Nigerian military led by Yakubu Gowon to penetrate the heart of the East, they have to use some elements within Biafraland to inflict harm on the young Biafran nation.
Ken Saro-Wiwa and Adaka Boro stands out in this regard. They never believed in the Biafran cause and fought so hard to frustrate the collective efforts of Biafrans to be free from the contraption called Nigeria. Adaka Boro with his militants fought on the side of the Nigerian Federal government. He used his weapons against his own brothers, yet the Nigerian military killed him just towards the end of that genocidal war. No matter what reason both Adaka Boro and Saro-Wiwa can give for their actions of betrayal against their own freedom, against Biafra, history has proven with time that they were totally wrong. Their murder by Nigerian government is a sign that Nigerian government can not be trusted to honor any agreement of any sort. A country of shame that never honored Aburi Accord that would have saved millions of life should not be trusted by anybody. It was said that Adaka Boro reached an agreement with the Federal government of Nigeria that after the war his "Niger Delta" will be given autonomy. How can a people that reneged on Aburi Accord agreement, picked up arms against Biafra keep a promise of letting another part of her such autonomy? Killing off Adaka Boro put such agreement to perpetual rest.
Ken Saro-Wiwa who was also on the side of the Federal government during the war also got the same treatment as Adaka Boro from the Federal government of Nigeria. Wiwa opened Ogoni land to the Federal troops to attack Biafra from that angle. I am a fan of Ken Saro-Wiwa, I love him for his courage. I love the fact that he gave his life for his people, for what he believed in, but his actions against his own nation Biafra continues to stand against other good things he stood for. He aided the Federal troops to kill his own people.
Saro-Wiwa rose to prominence in the fight for the emancipation of the Niger Delta people. In the time of Saro-Wiwa, the Shell Company has Completely destroyed the ecosystem of Ogoni Land with their unchecked oil spillage. He took up a high profile case against Shell and Nigerian government and won the case. He became an activist and his people got his back. Here he was exactly at the same position Odumegwu Ojukwu saw himself in 1967/70. The British government had the power to stop the murder of Ken Saro-Wiwa and his 8 Ogoni brothers by Sani Abacha but they kept mute. Probably they were in support of that well orchestrated murder. Wiwa and his Ogoni people were the victims, yet he was tried, found guilty, sentenced to death with his 8 brothers. They were killed by hanging. The leader of the Ogoni martyr reminded his killers that they can kill the body, but not the spirit. His spirit lives on. He assured his killers that more activists stronger than him will rise up to continue from where he stopped.
The coming of Asari Dokubo and others were in fulfillment of the prophecy made by a man about to die for standing against evil meted on his people. Asari Dokubo fought for the emancipation of the Niger Delta people. He was true to what he is fighting for. He went to prison. Kept in solitary confinement, humiliated yet he never compromised. He rejected the amnesty programme which made them appear like jokers who doesn't know what they were fighting for. For Asari, it is wrong to offer owners of the oil whose lands and waters are polluted a paltry 65,000 Naira every month. Oil producing communities produces the black gold, it will be slavish for the sons and daughters of these communities to accept offer from those that have taken over what belongs to them.
Unfortunately, today the new generation of the Niger Delta revolutionists have become a political tool in the hands of the politicians. They are now paid to start their fight against their oppressors. They take orders from selfish politicians who uses them for their own selfish gain. They have lost the spirit of the one that paid the ultimate prize. This is very sad.
This is a call for Niger Delta revolutionists to go back to the drawing board. Remember that this fight is never about self, neither is it about selfish gain. It is about the liberation of the ordinary man. Niger Delta waters and lands have been polluted. Fishing and farming which are the only sources of livelihood in the Coastal region has been completely destroyed. This is the time to join in the ongoing revolution for the liberation of the ancient Biafran people. A stitch in time saves nine.
