IPOB'S TOTAL BOYCOTT OF NIGERIA'S UPCOMING GENERAL ELECTION REMAINS SACROSANCT

IPOB'S TOTAL BOYCOTT OF NIGERIA'S UPCOMING GENERAL ELECTION REMAINS SACROSANCT

Speculations have been rife regarding the recent statements of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) globally, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, during his last Radio Biafra interactive broadcast. In that broadcast which took place on Saturday 12th January 2019, he pointedly stated that IPOB family members throughout the entire Biafraland, would be boycotting the upcoming Nigeria organized general election unless her demand for a referendum date is met. However, some individuals have taken to social media platforms, suggesting that the IPOB leader, has authoritatively lifted the ban on the election boycott and  allowed members, due participation in order to vote out the incumbent governors of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State respectively. This is an outrageous twist of truth and a misinterpretation of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's  statements.

The IPOB leader in that last broadcast, had categorically stated that there will be no election in Biafraland and that IPOB family members are not participating unless the Nigerian government positively responds to the request of Biafra referendum date. It was highlighted during the broadcast that IPOB will ensure that the likes of Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, are removed from office as governors. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu never mentioned that these men would be removed through the election votes of IPOB family members as being widely and erroneously speculated.

The IPOB leader can never double-speak. He did not lift the election ban placed on Nigeria organized elections in Biafraland neither did he reverse his statement about the removal of the two State governors. He also made it clear that the Movement could adopt any strategy deemed suitable in handling some domestic issues that threaten the unfettered restoration project of the nation of Biafra.

The falsehood been peddled around is the handiwork of detractors and the grossly misinformed aimed at causing disaffection. It sharply contradicts the stand of the IPOB. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu vividly made it known that the mission of IPOB is to restore Biafra and  not to partake in Nigeria politics and elections. The body's stand on such relative issues remains irrevocable unless the Nigerian government gives an agreed date for Biafra referendum.
