Eke-Obinagu community in Nchatancha Nike axis of Enugu, Enugu State of Biafraland, was greeted with restiveness today Thursday 23rd August 2019, as indigenes amongst others shade tears in pain and anguish following another havoc committed by Fulani killer herdsmen. As a result, all roads leading to markets in the area were blocked and burn fires as variously erected by the angry mob in protest, dot different spots on the roads.
Giving account of what transpired, the deceased son stated that his mother, Mrs. Regina Uba, went to harvest some vegetables in their nearby farm. And when she was not forthcoming, he went in search of her down to the farm, where he met her lying stone dead on the ground.
He quickly raised alarm which attracted a mammoth crowd of indigenes including men, women and youths who quickly mobilized and went back to the farm, practically confirming the report. The corpse was taken down to the community amidst yelling, screaming and tears.
At about 8:30am, the community youths and neighborhood watch stormed the streets in angry protest against the persistent and gruesome killing of indigenous citizens by the marauding Fulani killer herdsmen. Major roads including Enugu/Abakaliki expressway were blocked to vehicular traffic. All shops and market stalls were equally shut down to businesses. The community youths in anger, warned every Hausa-Fulani resident in Enugu to immediately vacate in their own interest or stay to face whatever consequences.
It should be noted that the community youths had earlier lodged the complain about the development with the Nigerian police. At about 10:45am, a combined team of Nigeria armed security forces stormed the area, indiscriminately shooting teargas canisters and live bullets, scaring the already angry mob away. The people were highly disappointed about the uncoordinated action of the Nigerian police and army in responding to the incident.
