BIAFRANS ARISE AND BE COUNTED

BIAFRANS ARISE AND BE COUNTED
By Chima Onyekachi
(For Family Writers)

On March 25 1965, Martin Luther King led thousands of nonviolent demonstrators to the steps of the capitol in Montgomery, Alabama, after a 5-day, 54-mile march from Selma, Alabama where local African Americans had been campaigning for voting rights. King told the assembled crowd: "There never was a moment in American history more honorable and more inspiring than the pilgrimage of clergymen and laymen of every race and faith pouring into Selma to face danger at the side of the embattled Negroes". Great Biafrans and lovers of freedom, as we continue our peaceful protest against the oppressors and enemies of our freedom we must arise with our heads held high and show the world that there are black men in Africa who are sensible and bold to stand against tyranny.

We shall march against the continuous detention of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafrans illegally detained. No matter what happens we must continue to agitate for the restoration of our fatherland BIAFRA. Muhammad Buhari ordered the arrest of our leader Nnamdi Kanu in other to weaken and silence us but that has failed woefully. It is time for us to act as we have spoken and be counted. The Nigeria Police have threatened to shoot us down but we must remain formidable.

Great Britain, the Lucifer of the world and inventor of the evil called Nigeria has openly declared their support for Buhari's action against Biafrans but we must remain resolute. Church and Political leaders are suffering from defeat syndrome and their cowardice and greed is the only urge they crave to satisfy. Only you can stand and speak for yourself and your unborn generation, do not be cowed. Martin Luther King and his followers made previous attempts before the successful march to Montgomery. In the first attempt, as the marchers crossed Edmund Pattus Bridge on their way out of Selma, they were met with a posse of state troopers armed and wearing gas masks. The marchers were chased, beaten, tear gas was thrown and officers on horseback charged on the crowd.

They were not deterred, Great Biafrans, we shall be marching as a family. Pack up your bags with comfortable wears, edibles and drinkables. Umbrellas, rain coats and clothing to weather the rainy season is also important. Communication gadgets, cameras, video recorders and their accessories like batteries and power bank should be included. Blankets, mats, torches, lamps and whatever we shall use to protect ourselves should not be forgotten. March in group with a sense of alertness and watch the persons by your sides. And be thy brothers' keeper. We are not marching by our strength nor power but that of Chukwu Okike Abiama who will be leading us in front and guiding our rear.
