Okorocha and the duckling

Okorocha and the duckling
By Tim Tochukwu
For Family Writers

“On behalf of all state governors in Eastern region, we have unanimously agreed with Mr. President Mohammadu Buhari not to release that terrorist and troublesome boy who does not know his root…Nnamdi Kanu deserve to die by hanging” – Rochas Okorocha.

The case of Rochas Okorocha, the Imo State Governor, and his tantrum above, which was made against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra (together with the silence of Biafrans over it) is best typified by the popular Biafran allegory of a young kite and a duckling.
A young male kite was so excited about its ability to fly, dive, swerve, and catch its preys that it became less discerning with the kind of preys it chose to catch. One day, it saw a little duckling feeding beside a water front; it went at it, grabbed and swerved away happily towards home. When it got home and perched on a branch near its mother, preparing to commence devouring its prey, the mother suddenly stopped him.

She had looked closely at him and saw that what he was clutching in his claws was a creature alien to their kind for food. To be sure she applied their test for determining their type of prey for food. She asked the young kite, “When you took this prey, was the mother there?”
The young kite answered in the affirmative, and she probed further, “What did the mother say? What did she do when you took this prey?”

The young kite looked at the mother confused. Finally, it shrugged its shoulders and explained that the mother duck did nothing. “She just glanced at me and looked away, and continued with her chores” said the young kite.

Immediately, the mother-kite jumped up from where she was resting on a branch and told her son to instantly package the prey back to its mother. “The heart of that woman is deep;nobody knows what such a woman has in her mind and what she can do. You are not safe with such a creature” she said. The young kite quickly took the duckling back to its mother. But it was very hungry; it should not just head back home; it must find something to eat.So after a little hunt, it got lucky and found a stray chick. Instantly it went for it, got it, and headed home. When it finally got home, the mother asked the same question it asked the concerning the duckling. The young kite explained that the mother of the chick had raved and raged; shouting herself hoarse and even attempted to fly after them. The mother kite then relaxed and asked the son to enjoy its meal.
In this allegory, Okorocha is the young kite. Kanu is the duckling. Biafrans are the mother-duck that have kept quiet since Okorocha made the nonsensical statement above. Okorocha, like the young kite, has the gift of the gab – he could fly, dive, swerve and duck with words. That was what gave him the confidence to coin those words about Kanu, a Biafran. But unlike the young kite which could still return its prey to the mother, Okorocha cannot take back his words. For that reason, Biafrans will forever judge him on those words.

Nevertheless, looking at the merit of that statement, one could see that Okorocha described Kanu as a troublesome boy; but spoke like an old fool. It is only a foolish adult that would see a man with millions of fanatical followers and think that such a man could be killed and he will live happily ever after with his children.

Even though Okorocha was flying a kite, based on decisions he had reached with his evil Nigerian rulers (who are confessed Biafran haters), he should have known the foolishness of doing something that will pitch millions of Biafrans against his family and lineage forever. Only a foolish politician from Nigeria will see a man with millions of followers demonstrating in Embassies in more than 66 countries of the world and think that he can just kill him and the world would go to sleep as if nothing happened.
Okorocha will eat his words.

  8. My take in in this case of Rochas okorocha and many other like him, must be told to begin preparation for endless exile out of Biafraland. There is no two ways about it. Obiana,oKOROCHA, Rotimi Amechi, and governor whose state was used to share our bloods .A day of judgement is near to them. And by the time we send them to endless, journey, their family members from generation to generation will never be allowed to be part of anything good thing in Biafraland, they shall be consider irrelevant.
