OPEN LETTER TO GLOBAL COMMUNITY ON THE ONGOING BRUTALITY ON BIAFRANS

This is to bring to the attention of the Amnesty International and National Human Rights Commission that all the Nigerian security operatives abduct and molest Biafrans for no tangible reasons. Biafrans are abducted by Nigeria security agents (Department of state services and the Nigeria Armed Forces) and taken to unknown locations on daily basis in Nigeria.

A Biafran named Mr. Ikechukwu Ugwuoha, Joseph Okorie and some others were abducted by the Department of State Service(DSS) on the 25th August, 2016 as they were returning from a meeting. Their whereabouts are not yet known. This is what Biafrans have been going through since after the illegal arrest of the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu on the 14th of October 2015. President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to threaten the very existence of Biafrans. Now in Nigeria, it's either Biafrans are killed, harassed or abducted. Biafrans are human beings, not animals waiting to be slaughtered.  Self-determination is not a crime and we should not be killed for asking for our right as indigenous people.

In Nigeria, we are the only ethnic group targeted for total extermination just because of the forceful amalgamation of people of different culture, tradition, languages and other things that proved that Nigeria was not supposed to be a nation but a committee of nations. I have always wondered why Biafrans should be vulnerable to all these abductions and killings.

My question here is: does the Amnesty international Motto which says that "it is better to light a candle than to cause darkness exclude Biafrans?  I had always thought that the objective of this organization is to protect human rights, legal advocacy, media attention, direct appeal campaign, then why is it that Biafrans are not beneficiary to this. Are they not entitled to these laws as well? Why has the international community decided to ignore everything that has to do with Biafrans? Is it a crime to agitate for self-determination? I am aware that the major objective of Amnesty international is to conduct research and generate actions to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated.

A good number of innocent Biafrans have been sent to their early graves and some are still being detained in various Nigerian prisons and the Amnesty international who are in the position to put an end to all these and bring justice to people turned a blind eye.

Though I know an investigation was conducted and concluded but no one was brought to book. Biafrans are on the verge of total extinction and yet Amnesty international has not proven their Slogan which is "Action for human rights" Hope for humanity "to Biafrans. Furthermore, I observed that this organization championed the rights of prisoners of conscience since it was founded in 1961, and thousands of prisoners of conscience have been released from prison following a quick action on their behalf by the Amnesty international.

But today, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu is still prison since October 14, 2015 and yet no move has been made to pressurize the Nigerian government to release him.  I am appealing to the Amnesty International and in particular, the global community as a whole to save the lives of Biafrans and also advocate for justice for Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People Of Biafra.
