OPERATION RED ECONOMY: AGAIN MILITANTS BLOW UP NPDC GAS PIPELINE IN DELTA STATE

For Family Writers.

Some freedom fighters yesterday blew up an oil installation belonging to Nigeria Petroleum Development Commission (NPDC) at Owhrode community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta state.

The blown pipeline supplies the Delta Steel Company with gas.

The President General of Owhrode community, Mr. Michael Odjo confirmed the attack on the pipeline to newsmen. According him, the explosion was heard at about 11:00pm on Thursday night.

In his words- "We heard an explosion on Thursday at about 11:00pm, immediately I mobilized my co-executive members, youths and members of the Local vigilante to the points of the oil installations in the area, but we couldn't find anything.

"So we returned and blocked all access roads both in and out of the community to apprehend the perpetuators of the act but we couldn't find any.

"On Friday morning, we discovered that it was the NPDC installations that supplies DSC gas that was blown up," he said.

According to Mr. Odjo, the pipeline was the only NPDC installation in the area. He however enjoined NPDC to engage the host community for the protection of the pipeline.

A police source at the Ovwian/Ajadja Police station, who did not want his name mentioned also confirmed the incident saying- "When we got there, we found out that the gas pipeline has been blown up with dynamite connected to a battery which the perpetrators left at the crime scene."

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Mr Solomon Kpoma said he was happy that the blown pipeline was not active.

"What saved the situation is that the affected pipeline is not currently in use because DSC is not functioning at the moment," he said.

Recall that Nigeria's junior Minister for Petroleum resources, Dr Ibe Kachukwu had earlier issued a statement lamenting that the activities of the activists in the region has crippled oil production in the country.

The freedom fighters on the other hand, have vowed that unless their freedom is guaranteed, they will never stop their operation zero economy for Nigeria.
