BIAFRA: THE SACRIFICE OF A YOUNG AMERICAN

BIAFRA: THE SACRIFICE OF A YOUNG AMERICAN

I have sat down in deep thoughts, on the unprecedented and fearless act of Bruce Mayrock, a young American, who set himself ablaze on the 30th May, 1969 in front of the United Nations Building in protest of the genocide against Biafrans during the Nigeria /Biafra civil war of which Britain aided Nigeria to execute genocidal roles against the people of Biafra.

Why should any right thinking individual in Nigeria, even the President assume that the Biafra ideology is dead? If a none Biafran could kill himself for the sake Biafran struggle in 1969, how then can a hardcore Biafran agitating passionately for self-determination be stopped? Muhammadu Buhari, the President of Nigeria, indeed has committed the greatest blunder of his life, by making clueless and misguided speeches in mockery of the Biafra freedom fighters in this 21st century. He should bear in mind that we are ready to do more than Bruce Mayrock and not even death can stop us.

In spite of this young man's action as far back as 1969, why then is the United Nations silent up until today, over the maiming and killings of same Indigenous People? It baffles my imagination how the United Nations, European Union and other International Community turn a blind eye while Biafrans are exterminated for exercising their fundamental human rights. This is to say that Ban Ki-moon and other UN officials in their silence over the massacre of Biafrans which has lasted for decades now justifies bias and insensitivity towards the plight of those involved. They have given an obvious accolade to the violation of human rights of Biafrans in Nigeria.

Bruce Mayrock set himself ablaze for somebody's freedom and I keep wondering why the verbal strength of the United Nations is found wanting over his death for close to half a century now. May I state it categorically clear that, the fate of Bruce Mayrock, obviously exposes the fact that the United Nations are selective over the affairs of their members in the sense that they choose issues to react to.

Further questions that baffle my imagination are: why are the voices of world leaders found wanting and anyone who eventually speaks, does that with a fainty and cracky voice? Are world leaders not educated enough, to trace the concrete reason why a young soldier set himself ablaze and died an agonising death? Where are the presumed world powers? Have their walls fallen same way as that of Nigeria or are they also trying to secretly maintain the selfish crude oil supply with the Nigerian Government? These are questions that pose for very serious answers.

It is imperative to note that the Indigenous People of Biafra under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will not capitulate and there will be no retreat nor surrender. If that young American could sacrifice his life for our beloved nation, Biafra, then nothing will stop us from actualizing our dream. Biafrans will never stop protesting, agitating, evangelizing, writing, broadcasting and tweeting, until Biafra is finally restored. We will fight without fear of our enemies and at the end, Bruce Mayrocks death will not be in vain and Biafra   must be restored.
