MAY 6: A BIRTHDAY WISH TO BRUCE MAYROCK

MAY 6: A BIRTHDAY WISH TO BRUCE MAYROCK

By Chukwudi Mufti Chuks
For family writers.

We, the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) wishes you, Bruce Maylock a happy birthday. You remain a hero in our hearts.

We are driven immensely by passion at the bold print you left on the sand of time. Our greatest regret is that you are not here to celebrate your 68th birthday but we know Biafrans who died during the 1967-1970 genocide will drink and dine with you wherever you are.
We felicitate with you on a day like this. The day a sacrificial lamb was born.

Bruce Mayrock, from Westbury, New York was born on the 6th of May 1949. He was a student of the Colombia University who died at the age of twenty when he set himself ablaze, burnt to death at the lawn of the United Nations Building Headquarter in "SAVE NINE MILLION BIAFRANS" protest against the 1967-1970 Biafra Genocide on 30th May 1969. Nine minutes after setting himself ablaze in a bid to draw the world's attention on the atrocities being installed on Biafrans, he died a hero.

Bruce Maylock
We greatly appreciate your love greatly showered on us through the greatest way of sacrifice. We confide in the generosity of history that generations yet unborn will still know about your love and sacrifice to humanity. Everything in life is uncertain but what's for sure is that life doesn't last forever and the utmost achievement of any individual is not the earthly wealth but the eternal publicity. Better to die for something than to live for nothing. We are not trying to make this a tribute, but a birthday wish to a brave soul who laid down his life for the suffering, torture and death of a people who his grand parents had no earthly connections to. He died for a race he knew not, a tribe he has not been in contact with and never visited. What a pure love that competes that of Christ!

Still not a tribute but a birthday wish to an epitome of love and concern- Bruce Mayrock, a yardstick of love and concern. Since it is left for mankind to define things the way it pleases them, let it not be a surprise to you that the good people of Biafra has decided to define love and concern with your name (Bruce Mayrock) and let it not sound silly to any individual for his love to the people of Biafra was so costly that no wealth in the world can buy.

Mr. Bruce, 'nwoke mara mma nwere ezigbo obi maka mmadu (a fine man who was so kindhearted for humanity). Don't see this as a tribute, but as irreducible love from those you died for- Biafrans, wishing you happy birthday wherever you are right now.
Our love for you will last till eternity.

  5. Oh! What a sacrifice, Bruce Mayrock. A sacrifice akin to that of Christ. You chose to die for a people you knew nothing about in protest to the neglect of the whole world who looked the other way. Tears raged in my eyes as I read your story. You're a Biafran hero indeed. Rest on, Bruce Mayrock. Happy belated birthday.
