RETRENCHMENT OF BIAFRANS: ONGOING ETHNIC CLEANSING IN NIGERIA BREWERIES

The report reaching Family Writers news desk has it that there is ongoing massive termination of job appointments of Biafrans working in Nigeria Breweries while nothing happens to the Yorubas working in the same place. According to the report, the retrenchment which started on Thursday, 13th April 2017 at Nigeria Breweries (NB) located at number 1 Industry Road near Aba Park, Aba Abia State has extended to all branches of Nigeria Breweries (NB) nationwide and it is still ongoing.
In an exclusive interview, the informant who pleaded anonymity hinted to Family Writers' editor, Orji Munachimso that, there was need to reduce the number of workers due to the current economic recession in Nigeria Economy, but the major concern is on why the retrenchment light is beamed only on Biafrans working in Nigeria Breweries(NB).
The informant on a sad note says excerpt: "Something is really happening in Nigeria Breweries here in Aba. Should I call it ethnic cleansing? Biafrans working in engineering, packaging, logistics and administrative departments including departmental managers are being retrenched for no just reason or offense while nothing happens to the Yorubas. The fact remains that there was need to reduce the number of workers but because the Nigeria Breweries branch Manager in Aba, Mr. Babatunde Jinadu and his second in command Mr. Olalekan Okubanjo (Production Manager) are Yorubas, they singled out Biafrans for the retrenchment". The informant further stated that, "for Aba alone, 16 workers have been sacked so far and more might still go. Out of the 16 workers sacked, 13 are Biafrans, 1 is from Benue State who might be of Biafran origin and the remaining 2 workers are Yorubas who were sacked because of the various offences they committed. The informant authoritatively stated that the Yorubas simply want to dominate the Nigeria Breweries nationwide as 90% of Managers are Yorubas.
The informant described the happenings in Nigeria Breweries as "ethnic cleansing" targeted at Biafrans and finally stated that, "nobody is blaming them for reducing their workforce due to recession but it is unfortunate that the Management of Nigeria Breweries nationwide focused on Biafrans. Our people always complain of the Yorubas that they work with in the various Brewery locations and the present situation is very unfair which also confirms the marginalization Biafrans have been complaining about".
