ANAMBRA GUBER POLLS: Nigeria to deploy 28 000 Police/Military men to Anambra

ANAMBRA GUBER POLLS: Nigeria to deploy 28 000 police/military men to Anambra

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Garba Umar, says it will deploy 28,000 of its personnel to Anambra state's governorship election scheduled for November 18.

Mr. Umar said this at a meeting in Awka, the state capital, on Tuesday of heads of security formations in the state and representatives of the 37 political parties fielding candidates for the election.

He said that 400 vehicles, 100 flying boats consisting of 60 from the police and 40 from the Navy would be deployed for use by security operatives in riverine and upland communities.

He said that the police and other security organisations would not spare anybody found wanting during and after the election.

  1. Could an election held in an atmosphere characterised by such a high degree of war-type militarization, tension, and citizenry mistrust of the government ever be considered free and fair. I'm not saying that they won't be declared as such; of course they would. And the sham that governance and human right is in Nigeria would country. Executive agression and repression has never meaningfully solved any problem. If you're in doubt, ask Napoleon, Marshall Tito, Joseph Stalin, Franco, and Tafari.

  2. What a country! Nigeria is now not back to military regime under Buhari. Buhari's authoritarian, fascist and repressive government is so evident. And yet, we have those elected to serve their constituents in the Senate and National Assembly. I often ask why Nigeria have senators and legislators – if they are unable to hold the abuse of presidency and executive recklessness in check. Truly, Nigeria is a lawless, corrupt and failed state.
