THE ILLEGAL ARREST AND DETENTION OF EGWUATU CHUKS AND PRINCE DAN OF FAMILY WRITERS: THE ORDEAL OF INCORRUPTIBLE JOURNALISTS

THE ILLEGAL ARREST AND DETENTION OF EGWUATU CHUKS AND PRINCE DAN OF FAMILY WRITERS: THE ORDEAL OF INCORRUPTIBLE JOURNALISTS

By Mazi Onyebuchi Eze
For Family Writers Press

As the Nigerian Police Force, Enugu State command has refused to release the two Family Writers Press field journalists by name Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan who were illegally arrested and detained, kept incommunicado since November 4, 2017 till date, Family Writers Press is hereby calling on the International Community especially the Human Right Organisations and other relevant Press Organizations to compel the Nigerian Police Force to release these innocent young journalists who are serving Family Writers Press Int'l in Biafra land in West Africa, a place which is still under the occupational government of Nigeria. In Nigeria where so many "write and collect" brown envelop journalists are roaming the streets and writing malicious and seditious news articles unchallenged, just because they are doing the bidding of the government of the day, no security agent is challenging the Nigerian media journalists even when many of them are not abiding by the rules of the Nigerian Press Council and general ethics of journalism. In fact, in some occasions, these corrupt Nigerian security agencies give contracts to those Nigerian journalists to write fake praise singing for them, media propaganda and blackmails especially against IPOB but the Nigerian Police Force or the Press Council will never arrest any of them because Biafra is involved.

But in the case of these two journalists of Family Writers Press namely Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan, they have not broken any law relating to the International Press Council or general ethics governing global journalism. The illegal arrest and continued detention of these young journalists of Family Writers Press by the Nigerian SARS Police has been described as an ordeal of incorruptible journalists.   The arrest of Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan was so described because they committed no crime warranting such intimidating arrest by the Nigerian Police SARS that has detained them unlawfully for nearly two months now.

It is important to make the world to know that Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan were arrested because of their truthful and ethics oriented journalism which is enmity to the Nigerian government and its security agencies. Have Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan chosen to do the bidding of the Nigerian government by writing and collecting brown envelops as most journalists of the Nigerian gutter media outlets do, people will be clapping for them especially when their malicious and seditious articles favour the tyrannical government of Nigeria. But how can the Nigerian society survive in the atmosphere that is hostile to truthful journalism?

It is very clear that had it been that Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan were reporting lies, there would have been a massive turnout of voters to the election which the people of Enugu State obviously boycotted. The Nigerian security agents built on lies will never touch them but as they chose to remain incorruptible journalists by reporting the truth of what happened in Enugu, the security agents decided to arrest them for no crime other than their sensational reports on what was happening during the election before their eventual arrest. But it is important to make the Nigerian government and its security operatives to understand that Family Writers Press is an International Media Organization with her journalists in virtually every country of the world. Family Writers Press is built on truthful journalism and does not tell lies because our websites www.thebiafraherald.co is the destination of researchers and news hunters across the world in news articles concerning Biafra, Nigeria, Africa and the world at large. There is no how Family Writers Press journalists serving in Nigeria will condescend so low to the extent of peddling lies just to gain the Nigerian government and its security operatives acceptance or endorsement. It is impossible! More Family Writers Press journalists serving in Nigeria could join Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan in detention if the Nigerian government and its security agencies insist that truthful and ethics oriented journalism will not be practiced Nigeria. Family Writers Press has chosen to turn the Nigerian Federation from being an enclave of media darkness to a place of habitation of people by exposing anything that is not good in the land.

On this note, we are still calling on the Nigerian Police to release the Family Writers Press journalists because after investigation, nothing incriminating was recovered in their possession. It is highly against the international laws and conventions to detain journalist arrested on duty for committing no crime against the State. Continual detention of Egwuatu Chuks and Prince Dan will be seen purely as a war against global journalism by the Nigerian government. I rest my case!
