OPEN LETTER TO OGONI LEADERS

OPEN LETTER TO OGONI LEADERS

With deep sorrow and regret, I write this letter to condole with Ogoni people in general, leaders and family of the deceased, Dr. Ferry Barineka Gberegbe who was gruesomely murdered in cold blood by the State Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), at INEC collation center during the just concluded Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections in Rivers State by Akin Fakorede. The deceased was the former Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), in Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, and a collation agent of People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Khana local government area of Rivers State.

Dr. Ferry Barineka Gberegbe's death, was tragic and must be thoroughly investigated. The culprit, one of the Nigeria's murderous agencies - the Police, should face the law to pay for the relentless crime uniform armed men blatantly commit on daily basis. The excesses of the entire Nigeria armed forces have publicly and alarmingly become an international concern most especially, regarding the just concluded Presidential, Gubernatorial, National and State Assembly elections, which in totality, have given very strong signals that the lives of citizens in this part of the world are unsafe as these grossly unprofessional security agencies, randomly molest and kill civilians at will, just to service and protect the interest of the government in power.  It is really unfortunate and heartbreaking that Ogoni people in particular have lost another illustrious son just to service One-Nigerianism.

The latest killing of Ogoni prominent son by a security agent should not be ignored as usual by Ogoni leaders. They should as a matter of urgency, convey a meeting to deliberate on this monumental orgy of violence and death brought upon the people by the Nigerian government. Ogoni people must reflect on the wave dastardly killings targeted against them by the same government that claims oneness when it comes to resources in Ogoni land. The perpetrators of the recent heinous crime have no hiding place and must be brought to book, as evidences revealing the unjust action were on live video coverage, trending in different social media platforms as made available for justice to take its effect. It is now time to take action and unravel every culprit in this act of criminality as such evil must no longer be condoned.

I therefore call on the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), KAGOTE, KEN SARO WIWA ASSOCIATES, tOGONI COUNCIL OF TRADITIONAL RULERS, all leaders, groups and the entire  Ogoni kingdom, to rise up and ensure that justice prevails in the case of Dr. Ferry Gberegbe to avert more doom being visited on the people.
