PROTESTING CATHOLIC PRIESTS IN ENUGU DEMAND THAT THE FULANI KILLER HERDSMEN LEAVE BIAFRALAND

PROTESTING CATHOLIC PRIESTS IN ENUGU DEMAND THAT THE FULANI KILLER HERDSMEN LEAVE BIAFRALAND

It was another day of  uneasy calm on Friday 2nd August 2019 in Enugu, the Enugu State capital of Biafraland as Catholic Priests in their numbers, stormed major streets in protest, demanding that Fulani killer herdsmen (terrorists), leave the State without further delay. This came on the heels of the malicious activities and gruesome murder of their colleague, Reverend Father Paul Offu by these marauding Islamic jihadists. The deceased Priest was killed on Thursday 1st August 2019, in the outskirts of Ihe community in Awgu local government area of Enugu State.

The angry protesting Catholic Priests totally condemned the brazen acts of insecurity and the indocility of the state government in protecting lives and properties as constitutionally stipulated and mandated. They maintained that the State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is weak and passive especially in dealing with the increasingly inherent security challenges. There have been reported cases of kidnapping, raping, armed robbery and rampant destruction of farmlands by the Fulani herdsmen in Enugu State without any recourse. It is disappointing to note that in all, the governor has remained indifferent in proffering lasting solution to the problems.

Theere were conspiqous display of diverse placards which read:

"FULANIS SHOULD LEAVE OUR LAND", "NO LAND FOR RUGA IN ENUGU", "NO SECURITY IN ENUGU", "WE DO NOT WANT FULANI COW IN OUR LAND", "STOP THE KILLINGS IN ENUGU", "WHOSE TURN IS IT NEXT?", "GOVERNOR UGWUANYI MUST ACT NOW OR ELSE...", etcetera.

The Priests also chanted songs telling residents in Enugu to "stop forthwith, the consumption of cow meat, Fulani herdsmen leave our land, we can longer tolerate killing again in our land". Hundreds of thousands of onlookers and passers-by applauded the courage of the catholic priests in staging the protest enmass. The clergymen made it abundantly clear that  never again will they condone the unmitigated killing of the innocent by the Fulani killer herdsmen (terrorists) nor further acts of insecurity in Enugu State. They pointedly warned against dire consequences should their statements be treated with levity.

In a brief interview conducted by Family Writers Press correspondent who monitored the protest live, one of the Reverend Fathers, stressed that their anger hinges holistically on the prevalent ugly security situations in Igboland particularly in Enugu State. He however stated that with the collective effort of majority of his colleague Catholic Priests in Enugu Diocese, they will carry on with their designed actions until the rampaging Fulanis completely vacate the State for good.
