Obigbo Massacre And Jonathan’s “Nobody’s Ambition Is Worth The Blood Of Any Citizen

Obigbo Massacre And Jonathan’s “Nobody’s Ambition Is Worth The Blood Of Any Citizen

The philosophical advice adopted to solve very critical political imbroglio in a genuine and civilized democracy as recommended by the immediate past Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, remains constantly relevant to the political leaders in Nigeria. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan had stated that there is no political ambition of anyone that is worth the blood of any citizen. In his words, he humanely and wisely maintained that "Nobody's ambition is worth the blood of any citizen. It is better to gain honor than to gain power at the cost of losing honour. At Any point in time, the power of love should matter more than the love of power".

"This is my philosophy. I have lived it. It has brought great peace to both my beloved nation and I. And I recommend it to all leaders that are faced with challenging situations either in government, at the polls or even in their dealings with fellow political gladiators".

Recall that in the year 2015, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan sought re-election at the expiration of his first tenure as the Nigerian President, on the political platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He eventually conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on clearly adjudged fraudulent election to avert the shedding of the blood of the innocent.

It is quite true that the former Nigerian President publicly recommended his philosophy at such a time like this when politicians in Nigerian are clamping down on angry #EndSARS and #EndPoliceBrutality protesters in Nigeria most especially in Obigbo Rivers State where Amnesty International and International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) have confirmed the killing of at least fifty (50) innocent people with eighty (80) others seriously injured during and after the #EndSARS protest in Oyiigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Despite the fact that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan did not mention any name in his philosophical advice to leaders, opinions have it that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state with the crass ambition of becoming the Vice President of Nigeria come 2023, has a greater share of the philosophical advice given by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. The statement is equally essentially relevant on the backdrop of the various gruesome killings being perpetrated against innocent citizens in Nigeria as a result of #EndSars nationwide protests staged by the Nigerian youths, some of whom have been murdered especially within the South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria.

Governor Nyesom Wike orchestrated the killings of innocent people through the army he invited, on the premises of pleasing his Northern oligarchical friends for his vice presidential ambition.

He had in his statewide broadcast, arrogantly declared war on IPOB in the State. He as the Chief Security Officer, requested for the deployment of the Nigerian soldiers and armed police officers who swarmed into Obigbo town in their numbers, burning down houses, arresting, torturing, maiming, detaining and killing people at random. Women were beaten up and raped at gunpoints by these uncultured security operatives. It is an inexcusable evil that Wike deliberately visited on the people with. The recommended philosophical advice given by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was meant particularly for Rivers state governor.
