Biafra: Radio Biafra – The Quest Is A Right, The Rhetoric Is A Crime

I am saying this because I have loads of Igbo friends, kins, cousins, and many other relatives who are happy married to the good people of the South East of Nigeria.

I lived in Owerri, capital of Imo State as Bureau Chief for The Punch for close to two years. My father is Ibibio from Akwa Ibom, my mother is Ishan from Edo State. I have lived in some of the best nations in the world, and I still live in one today.

I’m not an irredentist, tribal or ethnic jingoist. I am 1000% for self determination.

The Biafra cause is just. It is guaranteed by United Nations Charter. Nobody can force a people to belong to an association that they don’t want to belong.

I tell my close friends about the ‘1966’ mistake, I am actually working on a book with the title. If other ethnic groups in Nigeria had taken the bold step that the Igbos did with Biafra, we won’t be in this chicken republic called Nigeria today. Nigeria is a fraud. Look at our country, look every strata, from appointments to admissions. Only a person with cerebral palsy won’t get it. So, I get it!

Lord Lugard did what he had to do in 1914. If you check the remarks of oligarchs from 1960, you would agree.

I recall my first experience with Radio Biafra. I was waiting for my driver to me to the airport, as I was flipping through radio channels on my TV, I came cross the pirate radio. Though I was excited by what I heard, I was also troubled at Nnamdi Kanu’s rhetoric.
In that broadcast he said, “Any Igbo who pays tithes in a Yoruba church is a bastard and must be eliminated.” I also heard him say, “If you are an Igbo Muslim, leave the East or we hunt you down, and get you killed!”

I do agree that the concept of Biafra is what we need to inspire action to change Nigeria. But, in as much as I love the idea of freedom and self determination, I reject inciting people to murder.

The hideous role Rwanda’s Radio Mille Colline in the genocide that claimed more than 1 million ethnic minorities in the country is still fresh in our memories.

The United Nations that guarantees our right to self determination also abhors incitement to murder, which falls under crimes against humanity.

I don’t hate Igbos. I also hate the notion that any Igbo who disagrees with Kanu’s methods is “a bastard”. We must learn to present our points. We must not be moved by what some deranged bigots from the North are saying about Igbos or other ethnic groups in the South. By all means, stick to your narrative. But, we must pursue our causes with decorum and respect for the law.

Nde, wo…

  1. There are too many half truths and propaganda in this article. In any case in struggles like this, you will hear what you expect to hear; you will also hear what you do not expect to hear. But you cannot take away the fact that matters like this are resolved in a referendum. Have you cared to ask for one?

  2. Every lover of truth knows that Nigeria is a fraud and all who support it's continued existence are workers of iniquity.
United Nations laws on self determination is quite explicit.
The approach of Nnamdi Kanu to achieve Biafra isanother study entirely. I give all the support I can muster to the Biafra project.
If you critically look at the so called Yoruba churches, and their founders and their modus operandi, you might be forced to align with Nnamdi Kanu so also Islam and it's adherents.
I give it to Kanu believing that he is quite versed, learned and knowledgeable enough about the path he isasking us to thread with him at the front. He has not minced words telling us, that is certainly a rough and tough road to travel. He has told us that some will get killed in the process. But certainly Biafra will be achieved at the end. And that is the only thing worth doing and worth dying for.

  3. I agree with you 100%. I Like what Nnamdi is doing and I support him 100% but he needs to tone down on rhetoric. Preach love and peace not hate but continue to steadfastly do what you are doing. You will get more followers and admirers by doing so

    1. Hello Mr. Commentator’
You would just tell us that you are condemning our Director Nnamdi Kanu than been corny and ticklish in your presentation.
Seen your wrong English “The Rhetoric Is A Crime” see how wicked and malicious you are! How can you define rhetoric? We are proud of our intelligential in academic… your ignorant in and academic deformation is defining your make-up.
How can you say that Rhetoric s is crime??? This is illiterate of the highest other! An intelligential, highly gifted with great eloquence who command influence with a right combinations of grammar… How do you dearly tag this exquisite branny skill CRIME? You have demonstrated a high degree of illiteracy; no wonder Nigerian Universities is on the high way of producing unemployable graduates.
By nature we are God’s Children! And have nothing to do with uncircumcised Amajiri Ahusa Fulany and should not entertain them in our State, even God told us in Deuteronomy not welcome them nor have anything to do with them, talk less of marriage. Then how do you expect us to encourage Muslim or to harmoniously stay with them in Biafra Land? You are dreaming!!!! I won’t tell you the mystery behind Yoruba Churches and so call tithes payments here. Ponder on this piece of education.
