BRITISH MEMBER OF EU PARLIAMENT, JULIE WARD CALLS FOR "IMMEDIATE AND SAFE RELEASE" OF NNAMDI KANU, CONDEMNS ABUSE OF BIAFRANS' RIGHTS

Mrs. Julie Ward, a British Member of the European Union Parliament, during a Parliament session today, has called for the unconditional and safe release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, with immediate effect.

The Parliamentarian who is representing North West of England at the EU Parliament House expressed total dismay that "since October 2015, Nnamdi Kanu, a British-Nigerian citizen and leader of Indigenous People of Biafra has been unlawfully imprisoned by Nigeria Department of State Services".
Nnamdi Kanu has been named a "Prisoner of Conscience" by human rights NGO based in Nigeria known as International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, INTERSOCIETY.

The Senior British MEP and member of the British Labour Party was enraged that despite several orders from Courts of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria, granting for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the Nigerian government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has tyrannical refused to release the IPOB leader and Director of Radio Biafra, and his co-defendants, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawusi; in contravention of Chapter 4, Section 39 of the Nigerian constitution which inarguably guarantees the right to freedom of expression to all Nigerian citizens.
The Parliamentarian also condemned the incessant clamp down on Biafran activists by the government of Muhammadu Buhari and however advocated that her fellow Parliamentarians to ensure for the maximum respect to the right of Biafrans to self determination.

A full text of her speech reads below:
"Thank you Mr. President. Since October 2015, Nnamdi Kanu, a British-Nigerian citizen and leader of Indigenous People of Biafra has been unlawfully imprisoned by Nigeria Department of State Services, despite the fact that all Criminal charges against him were dropped and a court order has been issued for him to be released on bail.
"Chapter 4, Section 39 of the Nigerian constitution says that every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive or impact ideas or information without interference.
"I therefore call upon the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu  Buhari to uphold his country's constitution, to ensure Nnamdi Kanu's immediate and safe release, as well as his co-defendants, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawusi.
"The Nigerian government must guarantee the freedom of expression of all Nigerian citizens, including their right to protest without intimidation, and end violence towards those who identify as Biafrans.
"And I call on my colleagues here in the European Parliament to do much more to promote human rights in Nigeria." she concluded.

The Nigerian government has recently been receiving international condemnations over the incessant abduction, incarceration and extrajudicial killing of hundreds of Biafran activists in the country. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and several other International NGOs based in Italy and United States of America, in alliance with their Nigerian counterparts has accused the Nigerian government of excessive use of force and clamp down on Biafran activists in the country.

  1. Mrs. Julie Ward is a courageous parliamentarian and leader. By the way, why is it that none of the Legislator or Senator from SE/SS region of Biafra land made such calls in Nigeria? They are afraid of an ignorant president Buhari. We are finished in Nigeria with these kinds of coward, selfish and greedy Igbo politicians. Millions of Biafran people cannot continue to live under this slavery and servitude. . Biafra nation now or never.
