BIAFRA: CONTEND FIRSTLY FOR FREEDOM BEFORE OTHER THINGS

CONTEND FIRSTLY FOR FREEDOM BEFORE OTHER THINGS

It is essential to know that freedom is pivotal in life and so must be treasured and contended for above every other concerns. What really is freedom? By simple definition, 'FREEDOM' means having the ability to act or change without constraint. Somebody can be said to be "free" when he/she can easily adjust without restriction. In the theory of philosophy and religion, there exists the window of freedom without undue interference, hinderance or enslavement. It is an idea closely related to the concept of liberty. An individual who experiences unfettered freedom, enjoys protection in all legitimate concerns whether theoretically or in practical terms. Beyond the physical realm, freedom generally, does not have any political, psychological or any other dimension.

Important questions average Biafrans need to ask themselves are: Are we as a people free in the real sense of it? What actually led to the Nigeria/Biafra war of 1967? What was the aftermath of that war and what is the present day reality? Verifiable history forms part of legitimacy in the bid to holistically determine our future. The freedom struggle initiated by the late People's General, Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu on the 30th of May 1967 through the declaration of the Biafra nation, is yet persistently carried on till date.

The existence of a resilient and highly enlightened group like the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in all shades of activity and operation, has remained phenomenally examplary in the history of mankind. IPOB has carved a niche for itself globally, by tenaciously propelling the Biafra restoration struggle in over eighty eight (88) nations of the world. The crack and highly intelligent team of it's leadership and refined followership are exceptionally incomparable. There is a popular Igbo Biafran adage which says: "Azotacha Ana Azozie Ute", meaning "There ought to be Reclamation of Land first before that of Investment". This is primarily the reason why Biafra must firstly be restored before the government that will administer the nation is constituted.

In the Bible book of Matthew Chapter 6 verse 66, we are enjoined: "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and every other thing shall be added unto you". Series of quotes and practical instances clearly affirm the importance of firstly seeking for freedom which is an inalienable and invaluable asset to mankind. The Israelites according to chronicled accounts, struggled for freedom for four hundred (400) good years before accessing their land of promise. They did not permanently settle in a strange land until they moved to settle purposefully in the land of fulfillment. Same experience seems applicable to the Biafra restoration quest.

Right from the beginning of the amalgamation of sharply diverse indigenous nationalities called Nigeria by the British imperialists, there has been excruciating tales of woes for the people. Dr. Fredrick Lugard and his wife, Flora Shaw, orchestrated the enterprise in 1914 by merging the Southern protectorate with that of the North, thereby handing over the reins of power to Sokoto caliphate otherwise known as the Osman empire. This arrangement was aided by the British government, crudely subjugating, enslaving and marginalising the people of the old Eastern region known as Biafrans. Up till date, acts of gross injustices and criminality have unabatedly been visited on Biafrans by successive governments of Nigeria. There exists relentless denials to relevant public offices as well as unwarranted killing of the people, confirming daily, the dire need for freedom.

Nigeria is an evil entity and Biafrans have to be free. Agents of darkness invade our land with impunity and we have no other option than to re-enact our resolve for total liberty and civilized democracy. This will definitely engender viable Economy, Health, Technological, Educational, Infrastructural, Electoral development/growth. There also will be an institutionalized, vibrant Judiciary, religious harmony and respect for fundamental rights of citizens. Freedom benefits are encompassingly inexhaustible and cannot be alternated.

Let us understand the full import of what a free Biafran nation has in store for us all and persuade the undecided to join the convoy when there still remaineth time. Without freedom, we as a people cannot maximally exercise our God-given rights nor fully utilize our potentials. Nigeria is not and cannot be our "Canaan". Biafra is our land of destination and fulfilment and that we must definitely get!
